Homemade Food Coloring

Homemade food coloring options are only limited by imagination, flavor requirements and the effort required to separate the color from the source.  There are a great many colorful fruit and vegetable items that can be applied as a natural food coloring in your kitchen.

Anyone who has ever added strawberries to a smoothie has added natural food coloring even though that was not likely the intent.  Adding blueberries to the same smoothie would then create a purple shade and so on.

Turmeric is popular in the vegan community as a natural yellow coloring for tofu and puddings. Anything that can be juiced is a candidate as a homemade food coloring.  It may be prudent to use a fine strainer or coffee filter to further purify the natural liquid color.
