Natural Food Coloring Ingredients

The natural food coloring category of approved individual ingredients is defined by regulation as 'Color Additives Exempt from Certification' ("exempt"). This category currently contains 35 ingredient identities which do not require batch certification at the manufacturer level. The "exempt" list of coloring ingredients is commonly referred to as natural food coloring since the pigment sources occur naturally or 'in nature'.

The largest producers of nature derived colors market a portion of the "exempt" color additives list as natural food coloring.
